As part of the Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Capital Development (BDWASH for HCD) initiative — a major development effort co-financed by the World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the Government of Bangladesh — Parashmoni, through its partnership with PKSF and other local partner organizations, has played a pivotal role in expanding rural WASH services across multiple districts of Bangladesh. The project aims to increase access to safely managed water supply and sanitation, a critical determinant of public health and human capital growth in rural areas.
Under this program, Parashmoni’s network of field teams and partners helped promote the construction of safely managed twin-pit toilets and piped water systems at household levels, contributing to SDG-6 goals of clean water and improved sanitation for all. Through intensive behavioral change communication (BCC) campaigns, training of local entrepreneurs, and field-based capacity building, the initiative raised community awareness of hygienic practices and strengthened local WASH delivery mechanisms.
In collaboration with DPHE and other implementing bodies, Parashmoni’s involvement has helped extend essential WASH services in hard-to-reach rural upazilas, thereby improving public health outcomes, supporting nutrition and hygiene behavior change, and reinforcing the foundational conditions for improved human capital development in the regions served.
As part of the Comprehensive Cataract Services in Bangladesh initiative — launched jointly by PKSF and Orbis International to eliminate avoidable blindness among low-income communities — Parashmoni has actively supported outreach, screening and eye care access through its field networks and partner engagement.
This large-scale program aims to conduct eye examinations for one million people and perform 100,000 cataract surgeries nationwide over two years to restore vision and improve quality of life for individuals affected by cataract-related blindness — a major cause of preventable visual impairment in Bangladesh.
Through Parashmoni’s involvement, community-level awareness, screening referrals and coordination have been strengthened, particularly in rural and underserved areas where access to modern eye care services is limited. By collaborating with local health workers, vision centers, and partner clinics, Parashmoni’s contribution helps ensure that individuals who might otherwise remain visually impaired are identified early and connected with surgical and follow-up care — enabling them to return to productive life and reducing the socioeconomic burden of blindness.
